Article 9 - Persons voluntarily acquiring citizenship of a foreign State not to be citizens.

No person shall be a citizen of India by virtue of article 5, or be deemed to be a citizen of India by virtue of article 6 or article 8, if he has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of any foreign State.


Explanation/Comment -

No person shall be a citizen of India, if that person voluntarily acquired/acquires citizenship of any other/foreign country.

From the above it is very clear that Indian Constitution, offers single citizenship, which means, that no person simultaneously has the nationalities of two nations, or prohibits dual citizenship, meaning anyone cannot hold both Indian and foreign citizenship at the same time.
